Air Mix Control Motor/Mode Control Motor/Recirculation Control Motor Test: Test

How to use this manual .

NOTE: Before testing the motor, check for climate control DTCs .
  1. Driver's Air Mix Control Motor, Passenger's Air Mix Control Motor, Mode Control Motor, and Recirculation Control Motor - Test

    Preconditions 

    NOTE: Numbers in table indicate parts removal order.
    Remove Parts Test Control Motor
    Driver's Air Mix Control Motor Passenger's Air Mix Control Motor Mode Control Motor Recirculation Control Motor
    Driver's Knee Airbag (1) --- (1) ---
    Glove Box --- (1) --- (1)
    • Test Control Motor Connector Disconnected

    Procedure/Specifications 

    The diagram below details the motor connector design used on this vehicle. (Figure 1)

    NOTICE: 

    Incorrectly applying power and ground to the HVAC control motors will damage it. Follow the instructions carefully.

    1. Test the motor in each direction by connecting a 12 volt battery power and ground at the connector according to the table. The motor should run smoothly, then stop. As soon as the motor stops, disconnect the 12 volt battery power immediately. (Figure 2)

    2. If any of the HVAC control motors did not run in step 1, remove it, then check the control linkage and door for smooth movement.

    • If the linkage and doors move smoothly, go to step 3.
    • If the linkage or door sticks or binds, repair them as needed.

    3. Measure the resistance between terminals according to the table. (Figure 3)

    4. Reconnect the test control motor connector.

    5. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    6. Measure the voltage between terminals according to the table. (Figure 4)
