Preventing Parts from Falling
- Parts that require prying off or separating, such as where liquid gasket is used, may require force and fall off if not secured.
-
- When removing parts with adhesives or liquid gasket applied, keep the part from falling during removal by leaving some bolts loosened but threaded instead of removing them completely.
Example: Removing an engine oil pan
Remove all of the bolts with the exception of two bolts positioned diagonally. Loosen the remaining bolt leaving about 2/3 to a 1/2 of the threads left in, then start prying on the oil pan. Once the oil pan has separated, hold the pan up and remove the two remaining bolts.
