DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0045 (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025)
DTC P0045 : Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Circuit Malfunction
General Description
The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the turbocharger wastegate control actuator circuit for electrical malfunctions. The described circuit check will detect short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, and over temperature failures. If the turbocharger wastegate control actuator outputs an abnormal value, a DTC is stored.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 0.5 seconds or more |
| DTC Type | One drive cycle, MIL on |
Enable Conditions
Turbocharger wastegate control actuator circuit open
| Condition | |
|---|---|
| State of the engine | Running |
| Other | Turbocharger wastegate actuator power stage off |
Turbocharger wastegate control actuator circuit short, over temperature
| Condition | |
|---|---|
| State of the engine | Running |
Malfunction Threshold
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator circuit open
Low side output voltage is 2.24 V or more and high side output voltage is 1.76 V or less.
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator driver over temperature
Turbocharger wastegate control actuator driver temperature is more than 347 deg.F (175 deg.C).
- Throttle actuator circuit short
The current of any H-bridge for the turbocharger wastegate control actuator in the PCM is 10 A or more.
Possible Cause
The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR1 line short to ground
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR1 line open
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line short to ground
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line open
- Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR1 line short to turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line
- PCM internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
