DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P16E3 (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025)
DTC P16E3 : PGM-FI-Battery Sensor LIN Communication Error
General Description
The local interconnect network (LIN) transmits/receives signals to/from the 12 volt battery sensor. If the powertrain control module (PCM) receives incorrect information from the 12 volt battery sensor, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 5 seconds or more |
| DTC Type | One drive cycle, MIL off |
Enable Conditions
| Condition | Minimum | Maximum |

[ ]: HDS Parameter
Malfunction Threshold
Any of the conditions is met for at least 5 seconds:
- Checksum error
There is a mismatch in the checksum.
- Frame error
There is a deviation in the LIN frame.
- Header timeout error
There is a fault in the LIN line caused by problems with the physical layer connection.
- Message timeout error
The slave node is unable to respond as an acknowledgment to the header frame from the master node.
- Overrun error
LIN frame has been overwritten in the receive buffer by another frame before the previous frame was read.
- No start communication error
There is no wake-up request.
Possible Cause
The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- 12 volt battery sensor LIN line open
- 12 volt battery sensor LIN line short to ground
- 12 volt battery sensor failure
- PCM internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
