    NOTICE:

Make sure you review the A/C service tips and precautions before doing repaires or servicing.

    Preconditions

    Key Information

Do the following before starting your work.

    Remove:

    Sub-Procedure

    NOTICE:

    • If the A/C compressor relief valve released refrigerant to the atmosphere, determine and correct the cause of the excessive system pressure, then replace the relief valve.
    • Plug the opening to keep moisture and foreign material from entering the system, and the A/C compressor oil from running out.

    Installation

    • A new O-ring should be used at each fitting. Be sure to use the correct O-ring for refrigerant types to avoid leakage.

    Lubricant Specifications

    Object Type
O-Ring Refrigerant Oil - Refer to: A/C Refrigerant Oil Adjustment or A/C Refrigerant Oil Replacement

    NOTICE:

Make sure you review the A/C service tips and precautions before doing repaires or servicing.

    Preconditions

    Key Information

Do the following before starting your work.

    Remove:

    Disconnect:

    Sub-Procedure

    NOTICE:

    • Do not install the A/C compressor into a system unless you are completely sure that the system is free of contamination. Installing the A/C compressor into a contaminated system can result in premature A/C compressor failure. Refer to the A/C System Contamination Inspection - Refer to: A/C System Contamination Inspection or A/C System Test or A/C System Inspection .
    • If the A/C compressor is marginally operable, run the engine at idle speed, and let the air conditioning work for a few minutes, then shut the engine off.
    • Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination.

    Removal

    • Refer to the figure.

    Installation

    NOTICE:

    • Inspect the A/C lines for any signs of contamination.
    • If you are installing a new A/C compressor, you must calculate the amount of refrigerant oil to be removed from it. A new A/C compressor comes with a full charge of oil. Refer to the A/C refrigerant oil replacement - Refer to: A/C Refrigerant Oil Adjustment or A/C Refrigerant Oil Replacement .
    • To avoid contamination, do not return the oil to the container once dispensed, and never mix it with other kinds of refrigerant oils - Refer to: A/C Refrigerant Oil Adjustment or A/C Refrigerant Oil Replacement .
    • Use the refrigerant oil immediately after opening the container, and dispose of any unused oil. The oil rapidly absorbs moisture, which damages its electrical insulating properties.
    • Do not spill the refrigerant oil on the vehicle, because it may damage painted surfaces. If refrigerant oil contacts the paint, wash it off with water immediately.

    After Installation

    1. A/C Refrigerant Evacuate and Charge 2. A/C System Test - Refer to: A/C System Test or A/C System Contamination Inspection or A/C System Inspection 3. Cycle the A/C compressor clutch approximately 20 times by running the engine at under 2, 000 rpm for 1 minute or more and setting the A/C system to ON. This procedure seats the A/C compressor clutch sliding surfaces, and increases clutch torque capacity.

    6. If four numbers or marks (1 to 4 or ' to "") are printed around the outside of the oil filter, use the following procedure to tighten the oil filter. (Figure 4)

    • Spin the filter on until its seal lightly seats against the oil pan, and note which number or mark is at the bottom.
    • Tighten the filter by turning it clockwise three numbers or marks from the one you noted. For example, if mark ' is at the bottom when the seal is lightly seated, tighten the oil filter until the mark "" comes around to the bottom.
