DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0101 (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025)
DTC P0101 : Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem
General Description
The mass airflow (MAF) sensor is mounted near the air cleaner case. It measures mass airflow rate into the combustion engine. The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the MAF sensor for range and rationality malfunctions. During range check, the MAF sensor signal will be monitored if it is within the physically possible operating range thresholds. During rationality check, the measured mass airflow will be compared with the modeled minimum and maximum plausible thresholds. If the MAF sensor deviates from the modeled mass airflow or the mass airflow is a specified value, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Enable Conditions
| Condition | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Number of crankshaft revolutions | 50 times | - |
| State of the engine | Running | |
| Other | MAF sensor value is valid | |
Malfunction Threshold
Any of the conditions occurs:
- The ratio between the maximum modeled mass airflow and measured mass airflow from the MAF sensor is less than 0.92.
- The factor of mass airflow by the throttle valve and by the MAF sensor is greater than 1.20 and the mixture rate of multiplicative part is less than -0.12.
- The ratio between the minimum modeled mass airflow and measured mass airflow from the MAF sensor is greater than 1.08.
- The factor of mass airflow by the throttle valve and by the MAF sensor is less than 0.84 and the mixture rate of multiplicative part is greater than 0.12.
- The mass airflow is more than 1, 162 kg/h.
- The mass airflow is less than -80 kg/h.
Possible Cause
The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- MAF sensor failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
