DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P058B (3.5L Engine) (2025)
DTC P058B : 12 Volt Battery Sensor Current Monitoring Performance
General Description
Electrical management system consists of the 12 volt battery, the 12 volt battery sensor, the alternator, and the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM monitors the battery charging level through the 12 volt battery sensor, and controls to optimum condition according to the driving condition to improve fuel economy and to secure recovering from the auto idle stop. The occurrence of the 12 volt battery sensor characteristic abnormal affects the electrical management. Therefore, if the PCM receives current abnormality detection flag from the 12 volt battery sensor, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Once per driving cycle |
| Sequence | When the engine is restarted after the engine has stopped for at least 8 hours |
| Duration | 5 seconds or more |
| DTC Type | Two drive cycles, MIL on* 1, off* 2 |
*1: USA and Canada models
*2: Mexico models

Malfunction Threshold
The PCM receives characteristic abnormality of current detection circuit from the 12 volt battery sensor for at least 5 seconds.
Possible Cause
The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- 12 volt battery sensor failure
Diagnosis Details* 1
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.

Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
