DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P05AE (3.5L Engine)
DTC P05AE: Shutter Grille Assembly (Lower) Malfunction
General Description
The shutter grille system opens/closes the shutter depending on the driving conditions. The system improves fuel efficiency by reducing the wind drag. The shutter is controlled by the shutter grille which integrates the actuator with CPU. The powertrain control module (PCM) sends open/close requests which depends on the driving conditions to the shutter grille via the local interconnect network (LIN) line. If the shutter grille actuator detects the shutter grille system as mechanically abnormal, the PCM confirms the abnormality and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 2.5 seconds or more |
| DTC Type | One drive cycle, MIL off |
Enable Conditions
| Condition | |
|---|---|
| State of the engine | Running |
Malfunction Threshold
Either of these conditions occurs for at least 2.5 seconds:
- The actuator position is +12 % or more from the fully open/closed position which is learned by initial learning.
- The position does not reach to the fully open/closed position even if the actuator is rotated for 125 deg. or more.
Possible Cause
The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Shutter grille actuator internal gear damaged
- Shutter grille fin fell off
- Shutter grille actuator torque transmission part fell off (linkage lever)
- Shutter grille actuator fell off
- Shutter grille internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
