Driving Support System Description (Integrated Driver Support System (Camera and Five Radars)) (2025)
Integrated Driver Support System (Camera and Five Radars)
This vehicle is equipped with the integrated driver support system (camera and five radars), which analyzes information from the monocular camera (multipurpose camera) and the millimeter wave radars (front center radar, front corner radars, and rear corner radars) in a comprehensive manner to recognize an object.
The difference between the integrated driver support system (camera and five radars) and the integrated driver support system is shown below.
| System Name | Confirmation Method | Installed Sensors | Control Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| Integrated Driver Support System (Camera and Five Radars) | If the active lane change assist warning indicator come on when the system checks are being performed or if your vehicle is equipped with the Type S emblem, the vehicle is equipped with integrated driver support system (camera and five radars). |

Roles of Each Function
The integrated driver support system has four main categories of functions: safety support, driving support, lighting control, and notification functions. When the integrated driver support system detects a hazard, an alarm and/or warning notification is triggered. The system provides safety support functions that perform hazard evasion assistance if the driver does not (or cannot) respond to the warning notification or alarm. The system also provides driving support, lighting control, and notification functions controlling the vehicle behavior according to the road conditions to assist the driver. The safety support function has higher priority than the driving support function.

Multipurpose Camera Detection Area
Camera image processing recognizes lane lines, road boundaries, vehicles (front vehicles, oncoming vehicles), pedestrians, and bicycles, and measures the distance and lateral position to the target.
| Detection Area | Multipurpose Camera |
|---|---|
| Horizontal detection angle | 100 degrees |
| Maximum detection range | About 150 m (492 ft)* |
*: The detection range may change depending on the surrounding environment.
Radar Detection Area
The front center radar, the front corner radars, and the rear corner radars use millimeter wave bands to detect vehicles (leading, opposing and crossing vehicles), pedestrians, and bicycles in all around the vehicle. The radar also calculates the relative speed of the objects and the distance between the objects and the vehicle by transmitting and receiving the millimeter waves.
| Detection Area | Front Center Radar | Front/Rear Corner Radars |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal detection angle | 60 degrees | 150 degrees |
| Maximum detection range | About 250 m (820 ft) | About 100 m (328 ft) |
Vehicle/Object Detection Process
The multipurpose camera unit determines if there is any leading vehicle and/or detected objects that are moving based on the outlines of the objects, relative position and speed of the objects. In order to distinguish between leading vehicles and pedestrians, the system uses the recognition result received from both the radars and the multipurpose camera as follows:
- The lane lines are recognized by managing the width, length, continuity of the line from the image captured by the multipurpose camera.
- The road sign is recognized by comparing the image captured by the multipurpose camera with the sign information registered in the system.
Pedestrian Image Processing
When the system detects an object that could be a pedestrian, the system compares the object's characteristics against programmed characteristics for the system to determine if the object is likely a pedestrian or a different object.
Function Failure Indication
| System Temporary Stop | The system detects that the millimeter wave of the front center radar, front corner radars, rear corner radars is blocked (such as dirt attached on the radar surface/radar cover). | ACC with LSF, CMBS, LKAS, road departure mitigation, BSI, cross traffic monitor, front cross traffic warning, lane change collision mitigation, and active lane change assist stops functioning, and safety support indicator (amber) comes on, stores DTC, and a fault indication is triggered on the MID. After the dirt has been removed, the system recovers and the indicators turn off. |
Some driver assist systems cannot operate: Clean area shown |
| The system detects the multipurpose camera image is covered (foggy/dirty windshield, backlight, dusk, frozen, heavy fog, heavy rain, heavy snow, etc.). | ACC with LSF, CMBS, LKAS with TJA, road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition system, front cross traffic warning, lane change collision mitigation, and active lane change assist stops functioning, and stores the DTC, and a fault indication is triggered on the MID. After the obstruction has been removed or weather conditions are restored, the function is enabled and the warning indicator and messages are turned off. |
Some driver assist systems cannot operate: Clean front windshield or poor viewing condition. |
|
| The temperature in the multipurpose camera unit reaches the upper limit of the operating temperature because of a temperature increase in the vehicle interior (temperature rise caused by sunlight). | Temporary stop of all functions, safety support indicator (amber) comes on, and a fault indication is triggered on the MID. When the temperature on the inside drops, the system recovers and the indicators turn off. |
Some driver assist systems cannot operate: Camera temperature too high |
| System Failure | Components failure:

Stop of all functions, system indicator and brake system indicator (amber) come on, and fault indication appears on the MID. | Function | System Indicator (on the MID) |

Dynamic Aiming
The vehicle is equipped with dynamic aiming, which can complete the multipurpose camera or the front center radar, the front corner radars and the rear corner radars aiming process just by driving the vehicle around, and without the need for special tools. Dynamic aiming of the multipurpose camera calculates and adjusts the aiming correction value based on the flow of the background of the multipurpose camera image information while driving the vehicle. Dynamic aiming of the front center radar, front corner radars, rear corner radars calculate and adjusts the aiming correction value based on the flow of the target captured by the radar while driving the vehicle. When dynamic aiming is performed, make sure to drive safely at a constant speed with reference to the recommended environment. When dynamic aiming is performed, static aiming is not required.
Camera Heater
The camera heater is located on the windshield near the multipurpose camera. The camera heater heats the area around the multipurpose camera to warm the windshield. This helps prevent fogging of the windshield, facilitates the removal of icing, and provides a clear view for the multipurpose camera.
