VTEC Rocker Arm Test (1.5L Engine): Test

How to use this service information .

1. VTEC Rocker Arm - Test (VTEC Inoperative State)

   Preconditions 

   • Cylinder Head Cover Removed - Refer to: Cylinder Head Cover Area (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025) or Cylinder Head Cover Area (1.5L Engine)

   Procedure/Specifications 

   1. Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise.

   2. Make sure that the secondary rocker arm (a), the primary rocker arm (b), and the mid rocker arm (c) are separated and that the secondary rocker arm and the mid rocker arm moves independently.

   Specifications 

   Position	Specification

   Result 

   • If it is abnormal, check that the pistons in the rocker arms move smoothly. If any rocker arm needs replacing, replace the rocker arm assembly - Refer to: Cylinder Head/Camshaft Area (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025) or Cylinder Head/Camshaft Area (1.5L Engine) .
2. VTEC Rocker Arm - Test (VTEC Operation State)

   Preconditions 

   • Cylinder Head Cover Removed - Refer to: Cylinder Head Cover Area (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025) or Cylinder Head Cover Area (1.5L Engine)

   Procedure/Specifications 

   1. Check that the air pressure on the shop air compressor gauge indicates over 400 kPa (4.08 kgf/cm 2, 58.0 psi).

   2. Inspect the valve clearance - Refer to: Valve Inspection (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025)  or Valve Inspection (1.5L Engine)  or Valve Clearance Adjustment (1.5L Engine)  or Valve Clearance Adjustment (2.0L Engine) (2024 2025) .

   3. Install the VCM air adapter to the inspection hole, then connect the air pressure regulator. (Figure 1)

   4. With the specified air pressure applied, rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise. Make sure that the secondary rocker arm (a) moves together with the mid rocker arm (b) and the primary rocker arm (c). (Figure 2)

   Specifications (Figure 2)

   Result
