CKP Pattern Clear/CKP Pattern Learn Procedure (3.5L Engine): Procedure

How to use this service information .

NOTE:

Clearing the DTCs, resetting the ECU with the HDS or disconnecting the 12 volt battery terminal does not require you to do this procedure.
The PCM memorizes the learning status into the non-volatile memory after an hour from turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. If you need to disconnect the 12 volt battery terminals before the PCM memorizes the learning status, jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait 60 seconds, then disconnect the 12 volt battery terminals.

With HDS

CKP Pattern - Clear/Learn
Preconditions
- HDS Connected
- Engine Warmed Up
  NOTE:
  Warm up the engine by raising the engine speed around 3, 000 RPM until the cooling fan(s) comes on.
- Transmission P or N Position/Mode
Procedure

1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, but do not operate the starter.

3. Clear the CKP pattern learned value according to the instructions on the display.
- Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence.
- - PGM-FI (System Selection Menu)
  - Adjustment
  - CRANK (CKP) PATTERN
  - CRANK (CKP) PATTERN CLEAR
4. Learn the CKP pattern according to the instructions on the display.
- Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence.
- - PGM-FI (System Selection Menu)
  - Adjustment
  - CRANK (CKP) PATTERN
  - CRANK (CKP) PATTERN LEARNING
5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

6. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

7. Wait 60 seconds, and exit the SCS mode with the HDS.

Without HDS
CKP Pattern - Learn
Preconditions
- Engine Warmed Up
  NOTE:
  Warm up the engine by raising the engine speed around 3, 000 RPM until the cooling fan(s) comes on.
Procedure

1. Test-drive doing the following conditions.
- Vehicle on Level Road
- Transmission D position/mode
- Decelerate from an engine speed of 2, 500 RPM to 1, 700 RPM with the throttle fully closed
2. Repeat the test-drive several times.

3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, and wait an hour. The CKP pattern learn procedure is complete.

NOTICE: Do not disconnect the 12 volt battery terminals at least for an hour.
