Front Final Drive

  1. Drive vehicle a short distance to warm up gear oil to 140° F (60° C). Position vehicle on level surface (4-post hoist or over pit). Turn engine off and let gear oil settle for 5 minutes.
  2. Place drain pan under final drive. Remove fill plug (arrow) on side of final drive. See Fig 1. Gear oil level should be at lower edge of fill hole. Add appropriate fluid as required. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS . Install fill plug and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 N.m).
  3. If gear oil needs to be replenished following final drive repair, fill front final drive slowly and evenly over a period of at least 5 minutes until gear oil drips out over lower edge of fill hole. A filling time of at least 5 minutes is necessary to allow gear oil time to settle evenly in differential and cavities.
