Anti-Skid Regulation
ASR may also be referred to as Traction Control System (TCS). ASR prevents wheels from spinning or slipping during driving or acceleration on slippery surfaces. When wheel slip or spin is detected by ABS control module, commands are sent to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to reduce engine power (torque). ASR is effective at any speed.
ASR can be turned off by a switch located on center console. ASR switch may also be referred to as Traction Control System (TCS) switch. If ASR is switched off, it will automatically be turned on at next ignition on cycle. Depending on engine version, ASR may also incorporate an overrun torque limiting function (MSR). MSR prevents driven wheels from locking up due to excessive engine braking torque. As an example if driver switches from 3rd to 2nd gear manually, engine braking will be reduced by Idle Air Control (IAC) motor. IAC will be opened to decrease engine braking effect. MSR operation is not affected by ASR switch position.
