Bevel Box: Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Clutch Disc Shaft Spline Lubricant:G 000 100
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
-- Install a new circlip -1- on the stub shaft on the transmission side.
Risk of damaging the transmission or the bevel box.
- Hit the stub shaft locking ring -1- onto the toothed lug with a plastic hammer on the front side to make sure it latched correctly into the differential bevel gear.
- Do not pull the bevel box forcefully against the transmission by rotating the bolts.
-- Insert the bevel box and press it on the transmission as far as the stop.
-- Install a new circlip -1- and a new O-ring -2- in the right stub shaft.
-- Lubricate the splines on the stub shaft with Grease for Clutch Disc Shaft Splines:G 000 100 .
If the tooth position is incorrect (the bevel box cannot be pressed against the transmission), rotate at the stub shaft.
-- If the tooth position is correct and it is guided centered, the bevel box slides against the transmission as far as the stop.
-- First tighten the bevel box with the new bolts -arrows- by hand and then finish tightening to the tightening specification, refer to BEVEL BOX, INSTALLING .
-- Install the transmission mount. Follow the installation location and tightening sequence for the bolts, refer to BEVEL BOX, INSTALLING .
-- Check the level of the axle oil inside the bevel box, refer to GEAR OIL, CHECKING LEVEL .
Risk of damaging sealing ring -arrow - in drive axle flange.
- Press engine/transmission assembly toward plenum chamber bulkhead while carefully guiding bevel box pins into drive axle flange.
-- Fasten the pendulum support with the "new" bolt on the pendulum support. For the tightening specification, refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME MOUNT .
-- Install the drive axle on the bevel box -arrows-, refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the heat shield -1- for the flexible disc/drive axle -arrows-.
-- Install right drive axle heat shield. Tighten the bolts -1- to the tightening specification, refer to BEVEL BOX, INSTALLING .
-- Install the right drive axle, refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Reassemble the exhaust system making sure it is not under stress, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 01.2018), EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation III, As of 12.2017), or EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 09.2016) .
-- Install the noise insulation, refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING and OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Install the front right wheel, refer to GENERAL INFORMATION .
