As already in the E65 and E85, the byteflight is used in the safety system on the E60/E63. The system was adapted to the specific requirements of the vehicle.

The star-shaped arrangement of the satellites about the SGM (safety and gateway module) is a characteristic feature for the byteflight. The data are transmitted by means of light signals.
