SUBJECT

With the N55 engine

SITUATION

Based on the accelerator pedal request, the engine's response may not be fulfilled on hills if the "Auto hold" function is activated.

CAUSE

DME software error

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves certain E70 and E71 vehicles produced from 3/2010 to 4/2013.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 646  . If code number 646  has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 646  has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

PROCEDURE

Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.49.3 or a more recent version.

Target integration level: E070-13-03-504

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

G08567446
This Service Action has been assigned code number 646  . After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-420) and:
  1. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
  2. Punch out code number 646  (2), printed on the label; and
  3. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
