CHECK CONTROL MESSAGE "FUEL TANK SYSTEM FAULTY" IS DISPLAYED

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

SUBJECT

Check Control Message "Fuel tank system faulty" is displayed 

SITUATION

The Check Control Message "Fuel tank system faulty" is displayed in the instrument cluster.

One or more of the following fault codes are stored:

1. "806010 - Refueling button: button jammed open"
2. "21B022 - Information for refueling button, function: jammed open (reported by TFE)"

CAUSE

The locking rod for the locking fuel filler flap is disconnected from the central locking system.

PROCEDURE

1. Perform diagnosis using ISTA and identify if one or more of the fault codes listed above are stored. Work through the test modules to eliminate any wiring or connection issues.
2. Replace the cover housing for the fuel filler. Refer to ISTA Repair Instructions "41 63 005 Remove and install cover pot for fuel filler neck".

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger / power supply (SI B 04 23 10  )  .

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.

Work time labor operation code 61 00 006 is not considered a Main labor operation; however, it does require an individual punch time and an explanation on the repair order and in the claim comments.
