SERVICE INFORMATION
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
This Service Information Bulletin (Revision #) replaces SI BXX XX XX dated Month Year.
What's New (Specific text highlighted):
- Bulletin Updated to a voluntary emissions recall
- Affected Vehicles section updated
- Entire content revised except Model
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Do not deliver to a customer, a New, Certified Pre-Owned or Used vehicle subject to a Delivery Stop, until the vehicle is repaired. Do not use or sell replacement equipment/parts subject to a Recall
First check if a Recall Completion Label, SD 92-435 for this campaign is already attached to the underside of the hood on the right (passenger) rear close to the windshield.
If the label is present, the Campaign has already been performed and no further action is necessary.
Affected vehicles which require this Recall Campaign to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the ISPA NEXT.
SITUATION
BMW AG has issued a Delivery Stop (effective March 5, 2020) on certain Model Year 2020 BMW vehicles that were produced starting on February 14, 2018. This Delivery Stop has been changed to a Voluntary Emissions Recall.
CAUSE
An error in the digital motor electronics (DME) onboard diagnostic (OBD) software data status.
CORRECTION
Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.22.2x or higher.
PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.22.2x or higher (released March 2020).
| Model | Target Integration level |

Note that ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply ( SI B04 23 10 ) when performing programming.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA, refer to DealerSpeed/TIS/Technical Documentation/Diagnostics and Programming/Programming Documentation.
PARTS INFORMATION
Refer to SI B10 02 15 for label ordering information
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
After the vehicle has been checked and corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-435) and with the indelible marker provided, legibly print the Recall name, Recall number, and dealer code (5 digits) on the "Emissions Recall Campaign Completed Label" (see illustration). Peel the label from its backing and affix it to the right (passenger) rear side of the hood in the engine compartment, close to windshield.
For California centers only: It is required by the California Code of Regulations that an executed orange "Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction" certificate (SD92-084, see illustration) be provided to each customer (for vehicles registered in the state of California), once the Recall on his or her vehicle has been completed.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
During this workshop visit, the affected vehicle may also show one or more programming and encoding Technical Campaign repairs open where the claim submission information is available, the programming and encoding procedure may only be invoiced one time.
Update the vehicle to the required I-level or higher either by performing or submitting for this or one of the other open Technical Campaigns.
When applicable, please be sure to perform any additional work (before and/or after) these repairs require and/or close the remaining programming and encoding Technical Campaign repairs as outlined in the corresponding Service Information Bulletin.

- Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work (including performing the IRAP Control Unit Recovery procedure first as required, refer to the SIB in AIR) under the defect code listed in this bulletin with the applicable AIR labor operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments section
For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:
- When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim the applicable test plan and the corresponding control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor operations in AIR (including diagnosis with separate punch).
