Tachometer Malfunctioning

  1. Using scan tool, monitor PCM. If ENGINE RPM signal is correct, go to next step. If ENGINE RPM signal is incorrect, see procedures in appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section:
  2. Using scan tool, monitor BFC SPI serial data bus to determine if tachometer is active. If incorrect ENGINE RPM signal is displayed, locate and repair problem in instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article. If correct ENGINE RPM signal is displayed, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article.
