Test B: Keyless Entry System Inoperative
- If remote keyless entry system diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry system diagnostic system check was not performed, see REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Press each button of transmitter, one at a time. If system does not operate normally, go to next step. If system operates normally, perform procedure while wiggling related wiring and connectors. This can often cause an intermittent malfunction to appear.
- Lock and unlock door locks using controls inside vehicle. If locks operate properly, go to next step. If locks do not operate properly, repair power door locks concern. See appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
- Operate rear compartment release from controls inside vehicle. If rear compartment release functions properly, go to next step. If rear compartment release does not function properly, repair wiring as necessary. See POWER REAR COMPARTMENT & FUEL DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS article.
- Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and the Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step 10 .
- If no buttons on transmitter sound tone or illuminate Green light, go to next step. If any button on transmitter sounds tone and illuminates Green light, go to step 9 .
- Replace transmitter battery. After replacement, go to next step.
- Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on J43241 tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to next step.
- Replace transmitter battery. After replacement, go to next step.
- Program transmitter. See PROGRAMMING TRANSMITTERS under PROGRAMMING. If door locks do not cycle to lock, then unlock, go to next step. If door locks cycle to lock, then unlock, go to step 12 .
- Replace RCDLR. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program transmitter(s). See PROGRAMMING TRANSMITTERS under PROGRAMMING.
- Operate system in order to verify repair. If system operates properly, system is okay. If system does not operate properly, go to step 3 .
NOTE:
Ensure transmitter is correct model for vehicle. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
NOTE:
All transmitters which are to be recognized by RCDLR must be programmed in a sing programming sequence. If system is placed in program mode, it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon receipt of programming signal from first transmitter.
