Installation Procedure

    WARNING:

    In order to avoid flying sparks and electric shorts, ONLY use the GM special grease (non electrically conducting) for the ignition coils. The usage of other grease could result in a fatal electric shock, fire and severe damage to the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    The grease tube could be used for at least 25-30 vehicle engines. This should avoid that too much grease is used for a single spark plug. Too much grease could influence the ignition behavior.

  1. Coat a little bit grease (1) on the inside of the ignition coil opening (2). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

  3. Use the top of the grease tube (1) to allot the grease into the ignition coil (2).
  4. The measurement (a) of the grease tube top (without thread) is in accordance to the measurement (b) of the ignition coil coating area.

  6. Install the 4 ignition coils (1).

  8. Install the ignition coil bracket (3).
  9. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  10. Install the 4 ignition coil bolts (2) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  11. Install the 3 ignition coil bracket bolts (1, 4) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

    NOTE:

    The ignition coil wiring harness cylinder 1 and 3 are marked white.

  13. Connect the 4 ignition coil wiring harness plugs (1).
  14. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  15. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
