Installation Procedure
- Coat a little bit grease (1) on the inside of the ignition coil opening (2). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
- Use the top of the grease tube (1) to allot the grease into the ignition coil (2).
- The measurement (a) of the grease tube top (without thread) is in accordance to the measurement (b) of the ignition coil coating area.
- Install the 4 ignition coils (1).
- Install the ignition coil bracket (3).
- Install the 4 ignition coil bolts (2) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Install the 3 ignition coil bracket bolts (1, 4) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Connect the 4 ignition coil wiring harness plugs (1).
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
WARNING:
In order to avoid flying sparks and electric shorts, ONLY use the GM special grease (non electrically conducting) for the ignition coils. The usage of other grease could result in a fatal electric shock, fire and severe damage to the vehicle.
NOTE:
The grease tube could be used for at least 25-30 vehicle engines. This should avoid that too much grease is used for a single spark plug. Too much grease could influence the ignition behavior.
CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:
The ignition coil wiring harness cylinder 1 and 3 are marked white.
