Power Steering Pressure Sensor

The power steering pressure sensor is mounted on steering gear. See Fig 1 . The PSPS receives 5 volt reference input and ground from ECM. The sensor then sends an output back to ECM that varies with power steering line pressure. The ECM monitors PSPS output to extend ISC when high power steering loads occur to help maintain a stable idle. The ECM checks output of sensor, with vehicle in motion, and compares it with an expected value. ECM trouble Code E040 will set if expected value is not seen with vehicle in motion.
