Turn Signal Switch Assembly, Buzzer Switch Assembly, And Steering Column Lock Cylinder Set: Removal

  1. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  .
  2. Remove steering shaft bumper (2).
  3. Remove carrier snap ring retainer (3). Lock plate compressor screw J 23653-10 must be installed and torqued to 4.5 N.m (40 lbs. in.) in upper steering shaft (40) to keep shaft from telescoping.
  4. Remove shaft lock retainer (4) from steering shaft (40) using J 23653-A to slightly depress shaft lock (5).
  5. Remove steering shaft lock (5).
  6. Remove turn signal cancel cam assembly (6).
  7. Remove upper bearing spring (7). Turn signal must be in "Neutral" position to remove upper bearing spring (7).
  8. Remove turn signal lever. Before removing turn signal lever, position switch so that screws (8) can be removed through opening in turn signal switch (9).
  9. Remove screws (8).
  10. Remove turn signal switch (9).
  11. Remove wire protector (37).
  12. Remove turn signal switch connector.
  13. Disconnect buzzer switch wires from turn signal switch connector using J 35689-A.
  14. Disconnect buzzer switch assembly (10) using needle nose pliers.
  15. Place lock cylinder (16) in "Accessory" position.
  16. Remove lock retaining screw (13).
  17. Remove steering column lock cylinder set (16)
  18. Remove turn signal switch assembly (9) and gently pull wires and connector through steering column housing shroud (48).
