Cruise Control Output Test (1992 Models)

  1. Check for any diagnostic codes or messages. Run engine at idle for 2 minutes. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition to RUN position. Enter PCM diagnostics. Slide cruise control switch to ON position.
  2. Select PCM override ES07. Advance override until 99% is reached. Check cruise control servo position and operation. If servo pulls in slightly, check for at least 10 in. Hg of supply vacuum. Check vacuum hoses for leaks, restrictions or throttle cable binding.
  3. If servo does not pull in at all, go to step 8). If servo pulls in completely, wait 30 seconds. Check that servo is still pulled in. If servo is not pulled in, check for a slow leak.
  4. Decrease override until zero percent is reached. Servo should be in released position. If servo is pulled in, check vacuum hoses for restrictions and servo throttle linkage for binding.
  5. If linkage and hoses are okay, replace servo. If servo is not pulled in, lift drive wheels. Start engine for 2 minutes (allowing vacuum to build). Move gear selector to Drive. Accelerate to speed greater than 25 MPH.
  6. Slide cruise control switch to ON position and depress SET/COAST button. Observe CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED indicator. If CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED indicator is on and cruise control operates normally, no fault is present.
  7. If CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED indicator is on and cruise control is inoperative, check and repair servo throttle linkage. If CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED indicator and cruise control are inoperative, check PCM connectors. If connectors are okay, replace PCM.
  8. If servo does not pull in at all, check for at least 10 in. Hg. of supply vacuum. Check for vacuum leaks, restrictions and throttle cable binding. Disconnect vacuum release hose from servo.
  9. Plug vacuum release port. Start engine and idle for 2 minutes. Turn engine off. Re-try servo override test at 99%. If servo pulls in completely, check and repair brake release hose or switch.
NOTE: Servo connector terminals are marked on harness side of connector.
  10. If servo does not pull in at all, ensure servo terminal "C" is properly grounded. Ensure circuit No. 402 (Light Green wire) and circuit No. 403 (Dark Blue wire) are not open. If servo terminal "C" has a good ground and Light Green and Dark Blue wires are okay, replace servo.
