Control Module Output Test
- Disconnect heated windshield control module connector. Start engine. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between control module connector terminals A6 (Brown wire) and B1 (Yellow/Black wire). See Figure
.CAUTION: DO NOT leave fused jumper wire connected for longer than 4 minutes.
- If heated windshield power module clicks when connecting fused jumper wire, go to step 4). If heated windshield power module does not click when connecting fused jumper wire, go to next step.
- Disconnect fused jumper wire. If jumper wire fuse is blown, check for short in Yellow/Black wire. If jumper wire fuse is not blown, check for open in Yellow/Black wire. If wire is okay, check for open or high resistance in Black wire between power module terminal "E" and ground. If wire and resistance are okay, replace power module. See WINDSHIELD POWER MODULE (WPM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check windshield heating. If windshield heats up, go to next step. If windshield does not heat up, go to step 7).
- For DeVille/Sixty-Special, perform TEST "C". For Eldorado and Seville, check for open or short in Light Green wire between control module connector terminal A2 and power module connector terminal "D" and in Light Blue wire between control module connector terminal A2 and heated windshield.
- If wires are okay, check for proper terminal contact at control module and power module connectors. If all connectors are okay, replace control module. See WINDSHIELD CONTROL MODULE (WCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect heated windshield connector. Start engine. With fused jumper wire still in place, measure voltage between windshield connector terminals "B" (Red/White wire) and "C" (Black/White wire).
- If voltage is greater than 50 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 50 volts, check Red/White and Black/White wires for opens and shorts. If wires are okay, check for poor terminal contact at power module connector terminals "F" and "G". If terminal contact is okay, perform TEST "F".
- Check for open in Light Green wire between power module and control module and in Light Blue wire between control module and heated windshield. Also check in-line connections. Check for short to ground in Light Blue wire between control module and heated windshield. If wires and connections are okay, go to next step.
- Check for poor terminal contact at control module connector and power module connector. If terminal contact is okay, repeat PRELIMINARY WINDSHIELD RESISTANCE TEST . If system still exists, replace control module. See WINDSHIELD CONTROL MODULE (WCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
