July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Cruise Control System Diagnosis

  1. Turn ignition on. Enter PCM diagnostics by holding Climate Control Panel (CCP) OFF and WARMER buttons down simultaneously until all segments of Fuel Data Center (FDC) display panel illuminate. See Fig 1 .
  2. If display shows "8.8.8" for about one second and then changes to ".7.0", go to next step. If display shows "8.8.8" for about one second and then fault codes are displayed (letters or numbers other than ".7.0"), remedy fault code problems before diagnosing cruise control system. See appropriate G - TEST W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
  3. Turn cruise control slider switch to ON position. Press and release brake pedal. If display changes to "E.7.0" (indicating diagnostic system is in switch test mode), go to next step. If display does not change (indicating switch test mode cannot be entered), check for faulty cruise control slider switch, cruise/shift interlock/brake switch or their circuits. If switches and their circuits are okay, PCM is faulty. Go to appropriate G - TEST W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
  4. Select appropriate switch tests and perform required action to test switch. See DIAGNOSTIC SWITCH TESTS  table. To select switch tests, cycle through tests using HI and LO blower buttons on CCP. If switch test result is satisfactory, display will alternately read "E.0.0" and appropriate test number.
  5. If any switch test result is unsatisfactory, check appropriate switch and circuit. Repair or replace as necessary. If all switch test results are okay, go to CRUISE CONTROL SERVO TEST  .
NOTE: Cruise control slider switch must be in ON position before entering tests. If slider switch or brake switch has failed, switch tests cannot be entered.
