Anti-Lock Brake System & Traction Control System: Diagnosis: Notes

NOTE: To diagnose ABS system, manufacturer recommends using Tech 1 Scan Tester (94-00101-A) with chassis cartridge or mass storage cartridge and Bosch ABS adapter. Some diagnostic procedures will require Breakout Box (J-39700).

The EBCM/EBTCM has self-diagnostic capability, which can detect system failures. Fault codes stored by EBCM/EBTCM can be displayed using Tech 1 scan tester.

Begin ABS/TCS system diagnosis with PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION procedure. If failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, perform necessary repairs, and then proceed with appropriate ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK chart under ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK CHARTS. If no failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, go to appropriate ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK chart. The ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK chart will either indicate ABS/TCS system is functioning properly or direct the technician to various diagnostic procedures such as diagnostic charts, symptom diagnosis or BRAKE warning light diagnosis.
