DTC 42, Key Resistor Circuit (Circuit Shorted To Ground): Notes

PASS-Key II(R) input circuit and PASS-Key II(R) return circuit connect ignition lock cylinder to CCM. Contacts in ignition lock cylinder mate with pellet located on ignition key. CCM compares resistance value of key pellet to valid resistance programmed into CCM during vehicle manufacture.

DTC 42 will set when CCM detects a resistance of 307 ohms or less in PASS-Key II(R) circuits with IGN 1 on that lasts longer than 2 seconds. Ensure key resistor contacts are clean and free from grease, oil and contaminants that may interfere with key detection circuit and cause DTC to set. Ignition must be on for DTC 42 to set.

When DTC 42 is set, PASS-Key II(R) lockout will occur if fault is detected before engine has started. A short to ground in PASS-Key II(R) input circuit will cause vehicle to exhibit a no-crank condition. DTC 42 will clear if fault goes away for 2 or more seconds.
