DTC 44, Steering Wheel Sensor Circuit (Circuit Open Or Shorted To Ground): Notes
Steering wheel speed sensor is a potentiometer that can continuously rotate with one wiper in potentiometer portion of sensor. Variable Effort Steering (VES) steering wheel speed sensor is monitored for opens or shorts to ground in 5V ref hi circuit or steering wheel sense circuit.
DTC 44 will set when ignition is on and steering wheel speed sensor input is .254 volt or less for longer than 0.2 of a second.
When DTC 44 is set, VES system will disable and power steering will return to normal. DTC 44 will clear if fault goes away for 2 or more seconds.
