DTC 45, Steering Wheel Sensor Circuit (Circuit Open Or Shorted To Battery): Notes
Steering wheel speed sensor is a potentiometer that can continuously rotate with one wiper in potentiometer portion of sensor. Variable Effort Steering (VES) steering wheel speed sensor is monitored for opens, shorts to battery and shorts to ground in 5V ref hi circuit, ref lo circuit or steering wheel sense circuit.
DTC 45 will set when steering wheel speed sensor input voltage remains at 4.74 volts or more for longer than 0.2 second with ignition switch in RUN position. An open in ref lo circuit may cause DTC 45 to set, because steering wheel speed sense will always be high.
When DTC 45 is set, power steering system will revert to normal operation. DTC 45 will clear if fault goes away for 2 or more seconds.
