WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Cadillac DeVille. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect appropriate position sensor connector. See appropriate table under DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. On recline sensor, rear height sensor and forward/back sensor, check voltage between terminals "A" and "D". On front height sensor, lumbar in/out sensor and lumbar up/down sensor, use DVOM to check voltage between terminals "B" and "D". If reading is about 5 volts, go to next step. If reading is not about 5 volts, go to step 4).
- Check for open or short in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If circuit is okay, go to next step. If circuit is not okay, go to step 7).
- Replace appropriate position sensor. Go to step 8).
- Check for open or short in circuit No. 788 (Gray wire) between position sensor and splice S348. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If circuit is not okay, go to step 7).
- Check for open or short in circuit No. 782 (Black wire) between position sensor and splice S349. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If circuit is not okay, go to step 7).
- Check for poor connections at MSM Natural, 26-pin connector C1. If connections are okay, replace MSM. Go to step 8).
- Repair open or short in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Go to next step.
- Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. Reinstall and reconnect all components and connectors. Recheck system operation.
