U1301, Class 2 Short To Battery: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Cadillac Catera. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect all modules on Class 2 serial data line. Using DVOM, check voltage between Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 2 (Brown/White wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check voltage reading. If both voltage readings are less than one volt, go to next step. If both voltage readings are not less than one volt, repair short to battery in Brown/White wire between individual modules and BCM. Also check circuits to cellular phone (if equipped). Repair as necessary.
  2. If DTC U1301 is current and circuit is okay, replace BCM.
