Automatic Transmission Shift Lock

The automatic transmission shift lock system prevents the driver from shifting out of Park without pressing the brake pedal. The automatic transmission shift lock solenoid is mounted near the floor shifter in the front floor console, and mechanically locks the shifter from moving. When pressure is applied to the brake pedal, the automatic transmission shift lock solenoid is energized and releases the locking tab on the floor shifter.

When the brake pedal is pressed, the stop lamp switch supplies B+ to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is grounded through the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid energizes allowing the operation of the floor shifter.BTSI SOLENOID in SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS for more information
