Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System Check

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Shift the automatic transmission out of the PARK position.
  3. Press the brake pedal.
The automatic transmission shifts out of the PARK position when the brake pedal is pressed. The automatic transmission does not shift out of the PARK position when the brake pedal is pressed.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Do not press the brake pedal.
  3. Attempt to shift the automatic transmission out of the PARK position.
The automatic transmission does not shift out of the PARK position. The automatic transmission shifts out of the PARK position with the brake pedal not pressed.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. When the brake pedal is not pressed the BRAKE TO SHIFT indicator is ON
  3. When the brake pedal is pressed, the BRAKE TO SHIFT indicator turns OFF.
  4. Press the brake pedal.
  1. The BRAKE TO SHIFT indicator is on when the ignition key is in the ON position and the brake pedal is not pressed.
  2. The BRAKE TO SHIFT indicator turns off when the brake pedal is pressed.
The BRAKE TO SHIFT Indicator is inoperative or on at all times. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Inoperative (BTSI Indicator is Inoperative) .

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
The key comes out from the ignition switch smoothly without any mechanical binding when the ignition switch is in the OFF position. The key cannot be removed from the ignition switch when the ignition is turned to the OFF position. Refer to Ignition Key Cannot Be Removed from the Ignition Lock Cylinder .
