Cruise Control System Check
- Drive vehicle at a speed greater than 25 MPH. Move cruise control main switch to ON position. Press SET/COAST button for 2 seconds and release. Remove foot from accelerator pedal. If vehicle maintains set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not maintain set speed, go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
- Hold slider switch in R/A position. Vehicle speed should increase. Release R/A switch. Vehicle should maintain new set speed. If vehicle maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
- Press and hold SET/COAST button. Vehicle speed should decrease. Release SET/COAST button. If vehicle decelerates and maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
- Depress brake pedal. Cruise control system should disengage. Press and release R/A switch. Cruise control system should re-engage and vehicle should return to previously set speed. If vehicle is equipped with M/T and cruise control system operates as described, go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with A/T and cruise control system operates as described, go to step 6. If vehicle does not operate as described, go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
- On vehicles equipped with M/T, depress clutch pedal. Cruise control system should disengage. Press and release R/A switch. If cruise control system re-engages and vehicle returns to previously set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
- On all models, quickly press and release (tap-up) R/A switch. If vehicle speed increases in one MPH increments for each press of R/A switch, go to next step. If vehicle does not operate as described, go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
- Quickly press and release (tap-down) SET/COAST switch. If vehicle speed decreases in one MPH increments for each press of SET/COAST switch, cruise control system test is complete. If vehicle does not operate as described, go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
