System Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 GMC Sierra and 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system is operated by remote control. Use RKE to lock and unlock vehicle doors. Use RKE to release endgate or liftgate window on utility models.

Remote control door lock transmitters are supplied in pairs with each vehicle. Remote control door lock transmitters are hand-held and attached to a key ring. Transmitter for pickup and utility models has 3 buttons in order to control operation of system. When a button on transmitter is pressed, transmitter sends a coded Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) radio signal to receiver.

The transmitter must be within approximately 10 meters (33 ft.) of vehicle for receiver to detect coded signal. RKE system has no effect on normal operation of power door locks. The RKE system has no effect on endgate or liftgate window release.

Each receiver is capable or recognizing 4 transmitters. Replacement transmitters may be obtained, but must be matched to specific receiver. The transmitter is powered by a 3-volt battery and is water resistant.
