Circuit Description

TP sensor is a potentiometer used to indicate amount of throttle opening. PCM supplies TP sensor with a reference voltage and ground. TP sensor provides a signal voltage to PCM relative to throttle blade angle. PCM should detect a low signal voltage with throttle closed and a high signal voltage at wide open throttle. PCM predicts TP sensor value based on MAP and engine speed and compares this value to actual TP sensor input. DTC will set when actual TP sensor input does not match predicted value.
