Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, view MAP sensor voltage reading. If voltage reading is 4.5-5.0 volts, go to next step. If voltage reading is not 4.5-5.0 volts, go to step  6.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove MAP sensor from intake. Reconnect MAP sensor harness connector, if disconnected. Connect a hand-held vacuum pump to sensor. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using vacuum pump, slowly apply 20 in. Hg to MAP sensor. Using scan tool, monitor MAP sensor display. Watch for a skip or jump in sensor reading. If a skip or jump occurred, go to step  6. If no skip or jump occurred, go to next step.
  4. With vacuum still applied, check MAP sensor voltage reading on scan tool. If voltage reading is 1-2 volts, go to next step. If voltage reading is not 1-2 volts, go to step  6.
  5. Disconnect vacuum source from MAP sensor. Check MAP sensor voltage on scan tool. If voltage reading is 4.5-5.0 volts, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If voltage reading is not 4.5-5.0 volts, go to next step.
  6. Replace MAP sensor. After replacing sensor, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, review and record FAIL RECORDS data. Clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within fail records conditions. Monitor SPECIFIC DTC INFO for this DTC until test runs. If scan tool indicates that this DTC failed this ignition, repeat step  2. If scan tool does not indicate that this DTC failed this ignition, system is okay.
