Before Programming Engine Control Module
- Ensure charging system is operating properly and that battery voltage is 12-16 volts. Repair and/or recharge battery as necessary.
- DO NOT connect a battery charger to vehicle during ECM programming. Incorrect system voltage or voltage fluctuations from a battery charger, may cause programming failure or ECM damage.
- Turn off or disable any system that may put a load on vehicle battery, including following components:
- Twilight sentinel.
- Interior lights.
- Daytime Running Lights (DRL). Applying parking brake disables DRL system on most vehicles. Refer to Owner's Manual.
- Heating and air conditioning systems.
- Engine cooling fans.
- Auxiliary coolant pumps (if equipped).
- Radio, cassette or CD player.
- Ensure ignition switch is in proper position. Techline terminal should prompt you to turn ignition on, with engine off. DO NOT change ignition switch position during programming procedure, unless instructed to do so.
- Ensure all connections are secure and tight, including RS-232 cable between scan tool and Techline terminal, DLC connection and voltage supply circuits.
