Circuit Description
Theft deterrent control module produces theft deterrent fuel enable signal when ignition is in RUN position and proper transponder key value is detected. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors fuel enable signal during crank. If proper signal is present on class 2 serial data circuit, PCM enables fuel delivery allowing engine to start. If PCM is replaced, replacement PCM should learn password within a few seconds after ignition switch is turned to RUN position. DTC P1630 is an information code indicating that PCM is ready to learn theft deterrent password. Engine will start and continues to run with DTC P1630 set.
DTC sets when, PCM remains in theft deterrent password learn mode for more than 2 seconds.
When DTC sets, vehicle will not start, theft deterrent control module sends a message via class2 serial data circuit to instrument cluster illuminating SECURITY indicator, instrument cluster displays STARTING DISABLED and REMOVE KEY message. PCM will not illuminate Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). PCM will store conditions which were present when DTC set as failure records data only and information will not be stored as freeze frame data.
A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles have occurred without a malfunction. DTC can also be cleared using a scan tool.
