Test A: Remote Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Press each button on remote transmitter one at a time. If system operates normally, problem may be intermittent. Check for intermittent or poor connections, see PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If system does not operate normally, go to next step.
  3. Check power door lock function using door mounted switches. If power door lock functions properly, go to next step. If power door locks do not function properly, repair by symptom. See POWER DOOR LOCKS - DEVILLE article.
  4. Check trunk release function using instrument panel mounted switch. If trunk lid release functions properly, go to next step. If trunk lid release does not function properly, repair by symptom. See POWER TRUNK & FUEL DOOR RELEASE - DEVILLE article.
    5. NOTE: Ensure keyless entry transmitter is correct model for this vehicle. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
  5. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and the Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step  10 .
  6. If any button sounds tone and illuminates Green light, go to step  9 . If none of the buttons sound tone or illuminate Green light, go to next step.
  7. Replace transmitter battery. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER BATTERY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  8. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step  10 . If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step.
  9. Replace transmitter. Program transmitter(s). See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  10. Program transmitter(s). See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. If locks cycle to lock, then unlock, go to step  12 . If locks do not cycle to lock, then unlock, go to next step.
  11. Replace remote control door lock receiver. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  12. Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, testing is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step  3 .
