DTC P1566: Powertrain Control Module Detects High Engine Speed: Testing

  1. If cruise control diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If cruise control diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform appropriate CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM  .
  2. If no Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any ABS DTCs are retrieved, repair anti-lock brake DTCs first. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  3. If no transaxle DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any transaxle DTCs are retrieved, repair transaxle DTCs first. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  4. Verify with customer conditions which stored DTC. If engine RPM stored DTC, go to next step. If engine RPM did not store DTC, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  5. Explain system operation to customer, then clear DTCs. System should be operating correctly at this time.
