Air Bag System Diagnostic System Check

NOTE:
Use this check as starting point for any air bag system complaint.
- Observe air bag indicator while turning ignition switch to RUN position. If air bag indicator flashes 7 times, go to next step. If air bag indicator does not flash 7 times, diagnose air bag system problem.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Try to establish scan tool communication with inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). If communication with SDM is established, go to next step. If communication with SDM is not established, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Select DISPLAY DTC function for SDM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs current are displayed, go to next step. If no current DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
- Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTCs U1000-U1305 are not present, go to next step. If DTCs U1000-U1305 are present, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Check for DTC B1000. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, go to DTC B1000: CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTION under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . Repair as necessary.
