Engine Cooling Diagnostic System Check

- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver side of instrument panel, near steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Dash Integration Module (DIM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with IPM and PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with IPM and PCM, perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCs function for DIM, IPC and PCM. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTCs, repair engine cooling system by symptom. See appropriate ELECTRIC COOLING FANS article in ENGINE COOLING.
- If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
