Installation Procedure
- Install the brake pedal and return spring assembly to the bracket.
- Install the brake pedal pivot bolt.NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the nut to the brake pedal pivot bolt.
Tighten
- Tighten the nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
- Hook the return spring (1) to the backside of the brake pedal assembly (2).
Important: The adjustable pedals cable assembly must be installed in its original position and fastened with cable retaining clip to the top of the bracket. Make sure the cable is not twisted or binding.
- Install the adjustable pedal cable to the accelerator pedal:
- Insert the adjustable cable into the accelerator pedal assembly until it is secured by the secondary locking tabs.
- Install and twist the cable housing to secure to the accelerator pedal assembly.
- Install the cable retaining clip to the top of the bracket.
- Install the EAP assembly to the vehicle.
- Install the brake booster to its mounting position.
- Install the top EAP bracket bolt (1).
Tighten
- Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the EAP bracket nuts (2) to the studs (3) at the bulkhead.
Tighten
- Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the brake pedal pushrod (2) and the stop lamp switch (4) to the brake pedal.
- Install the pushrod retaining clip (3) to the brake pedal pin (1).
- Connect the electrical connectors to the following components:
- The adjustable pedals motor assembly
- The memory sensor connector (if equipped)
- The pedal position sensor
- The accelerator wiring harness connector
- Position the replacement I/P reinforcement brace and install the upper and lower bolts to maintain the position of the brace The lower bolt may be removed after the brace is in position.
Important: Do not allow the assembly tool speed to exceed 350 rpm on fasteners with an adhesive patch.
- Install the upper I/P reinforcement brace nut to the bolt.
Tighten
- Tighten the nut to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
- Install the lower I/P reinforcement brace bolt (1) to the EAP bracket.
Tighten
- Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the transmission range selector cable support bolt to the I/P reinforcement brace.
Tighten
- Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Install the steering column to the vehicle. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT
in Steering Wheel and Column.
Install the lower I/P reinforcement brace bolt (2) after the column is in position.
- Connect the brake assist pump motor wiring harness and vacuum hose (if equipped).
- Install the master cylinder to the brake booster. Refer to MASTER CYLINDER in Hydraulic Brakes.
- Verify the operation of the adjustable pedals.
