Scan Tool Output Controls (W/JL4)

Scan Tool Output Controls (W/JL4)

Scan Tool Output Control Additional Menu Selections Description
Refer to the scan tool manual for complete scan tool operating instructions.
ABS Motor - This function allows the technician to command the ABS pump motor ON and OFF.
Automated Bleed - The electronic brake control module (EBCM) commands each valve solenoid and the pump motor ON and OFF in a special sequence in order to bleed air out of the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV). Refer to ABS Automated Bleed Procedure (w/o JL4)  or ABS Automated Bleed Procedure (W/JL4)  for a step-by-step procedure.
Left Front Brake Apply - The EBCM energizes the appropriate solenoids and the precharge pump motor to apply brake pressure to the left, front wheel. The precharge pump turns OFF after approximately 2 seconds, but the brake pressure is held for approximately 9 seconds. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Hydraulic Testing  for a step-by-step procedure.
Left Rear Brake Apply - The EBCM energizes the appropriate solenoids and the precharge pump motor to apply brake pressure to the left, rear wheel. The precharge pump turns OFF after approximately 2 seconds, but the brake pressure is held for approximately 9 seconds. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Hydraulic Testing  for a step-by-step procedure.
Pre-charge Bleed - The EBCM commands both TC isolation valve solenoids ON and energizes the precharge pump to bleed air from the precharge pump, combination valve and the hydraulic circuitry between these components. Refer to ABS Automated Bleed Procedure (w/o JL4)  or ABS Automated Bleed Procedure (W/JL4)  for a step-by-step procedure.
Right Front Brake Apply - The EBCM energizes the appropriate solenoids and the precharge pump motor to apply brake pressure to the right, front wheel. The precharge pump turns OFF after approximately 2 seconds, but the brake pressure is held for approximately 9 seconds. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Hydraulic Testing  for a step-by-step procedure.
Right Rear Brake Apply - The EBCM energizes the appropriate solenoids and the precharge pump motor to apply brake pressure to the right, rear wheel. The precharge pump turns OFF after approximately 2 seconds, but the brake pressure is held for approximately 9 seconds. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Hydraulic Testing  for a step-by-step procedure.
Solenoid Tests
  • Left Front Dump Valve
  • Left Front Isolation Valve
  • Left Rear Dump Valve
  • Left Rear Isolation Valve
  • Right Front Dump Valve
  • Right Front Isolation Valve
  • Right Rear Dump Valve
  • Right Rear Isolation Valve
This function allows the technician to command a selected dump or isolation valve solenoid ON and OFF to verify proper operation of the BPMV. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Hydraulic Testing  for complete procedure instructions.
Request ABS/VSES Info. for SPS Request Info. This function allows you to request VIN and EBCM software information to be used when programming the EBCM using service programming system (SPS).
Tire Size Calibration
  • Read Tire Calibration
  • New Tire Size
IMPORTANT: The Yaw Rate Reference Table Reset Procedure must also be performed if the tire size is changed. Refer to Yaw Rate Reference Table Reset Procedure .
This function allows the technician to read the tire size calibration of the EBCM or calibrate the EBCM to the correct tire size. Calibration must be performed when the EBCM is replaced or when different size tires are installed on the vehicle.
