Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Cadillac CTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the VES actuator.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the low effort control circuit terminal A and ground.
  3. Cycle the ignition ON and verify the test lamp turns ON then OFF.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminals A and B.
  5. Cycle the ignition ON and verify the test lamp turns ON then OFF.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  6. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
  7. Test for infinite resistance between the control circuit terminal 29 and ground.
    • If not the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to ground.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the VES actuator.
