Removal Procedure

    Fig 1: Turning Adjuster Nut Assembly Counterclockwise 22-32 Degrees To Align The Hole In The Adjuster Nut Assembly With The Second Mark On The Steering Gear Housing

  1. Remove the steering gear from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Gear Replacement .
  2. Rotate stub shaft back and forth to drain the power steering fluid.
  3. Place J 42882  over the end of the stub shaft. See Special Tools . Slide J 43435  over the top of J 42882  . See Special Tools . Use a torque wrench to remove the lock nut from the steering gear housing.

    J 43435  reverses to work with all available lock nut assemblies. See Special Tools .

  5. Using J 42882  , remove the adjuster nut assembly from the steering gear housing. See Special Tools .
  6. Remove the thrust bearing support from the steering gear housing.

    Discard the thrust bearing support.
