Removal Procedure
- Remove the steering gear from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Gear Replacement .
- Rotate stub shaft back and forth to drain the power steering fluid.
- Place J 42882
over the end of the stub shaft. See Special Tools . Slide J 43435
over the top of J 42882
. See Special Tools . Use a torque wrench to remove the lock nut from the steering gear housing.
J 43435 reverses to work with all available lock nut assemblies. See Special Tools .
- Using J 42882 , remove the adjuster nut assembly from the steering gear housing. See Special Tools .
- Remove the thrust bearing support from the steering gear housing.
Discard the thrust bearing support.
