Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2008 GMC Yukon XL, 2008 GMC Yukon, 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the leaf spring assembly to the vehicle.

  3. Install the front bolt and nuts but do not tighten.
  4. Install the rear leaf spring hanger to shackle nut and bolt.

    IMPORTANT: Do not reuse the U-bolts.
  6. Install the spring spacer.
  7. Install the U-bolts.
  8. Install the anchor plate.
  9. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  10. Install the U-bolt nuts.

    Tighten: 

    • For the 1500, tighten the nut to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).
    • For the 2500/3500, tighten the U-bolt nut to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).

  11. Tighten the front rear spring mounting nut

    Tighten:  Tighten the front nut to 200 N.m (148 lb ft).

  12. Tighten the rear leaf spring hanger to shackle nut and bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the shackle nut to 90 N.m (70 lb ft).

  13. Install the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 SWB - 98.4L (26 gal) Tank) or Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 LWB - 117.3L (31 gal) Tank) or Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 SWB - 98.4L (26 gal) Tank + E85) or Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 LWB - 117.3L (31 gal) Tank + E85) or Fuel Tank Replacement (2500 LWB - 98.4L (26 gal) Tank-Front) or Fuel Tank Replacement (2500 LWB - 43.5L (11.5 gal) Tank-Rear) .
  14. Install the trailer hitch, if equipped. Refer to Trailer Hitch Replacement .
  15. Remove the rear axle support.
  16. Remove the safety stands.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
