Diagnostic Aids
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Check for any of the following conditions:
- Check for any recent engine mechanical repairs. An incorrectly timed or incorrectly installed camshaft can cause a DTC P1349 to set.
- Check CMP sensor reluctor for a damaged tooth. A damaged reluctor can cause an incorrect CMP sensor reading that may set a false DTC P1349.
- If a DTC P1349 and P1346 are both present, Check for a malfunctioning CMP solenoid valve. Observe Cam Phase Angle and Cam Phase Angle Desired parameters on scan tool are approximately equal. A difference in the two parameters indicates CMP solenoid may be sticking.
- An intermittent DTC P1349 can be caused by a loss in the oil supply to CMP solenoid valve or CMP actuator assembly. Check oil passages for foreign material and blockage. Check oil filter of CMP actuator solenoid valve for dirt or restrictions.
An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a fault in the electrical circuit of CMP actuator valve. Check wiring harness and components for an intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 1.8L VIBE article. Information included in freeze frame data can be useful in determining vehicle operating conditions when DTC first set.
